Normally your router will use DHCP to automatically assign an IP address to a device when it connects to the network, this allows for very little configuration and new devices can connect quickly.
However if you wish to forward ports to your computer to host a game server or you have a device on your network such as a NAS storage enclosure it is recommended that you assign it a reserved IP address in your routers interface.
To allocate a reserved IP address, first ensure that the computer or device that you want to assign the address too is switch on and connected to the network.
Open your web browser and navigate to the Netgear configuration page (default is 192.168.0.1)
Scroll down on the left hand menu and click “LAN Setup”
You will be shown an interface with options to configure various aspect of the LAN, at the bottom of the page under Address Reservation click “Add”
Select the device you wish to reserve the address for from the table, if the device does not appear in the table click “Refresh” if it still does not appear you can enter the details manually.
Check that your selected device appears in the list, make sure that you take note of the IP address then click “Apply”
This device should now always be assigned the same IP address.
