Before you configure port forwarding you need to insure that you have a reserved or static IP address, view this help article on how to reserve an IP address with a Thompson/Speedtouch router.

It is important that you have a reserved or static IP address as the rules are set to forward ports to a specific IP address. If you haven’t configured a reserved or static IP address it will change each time you reboot your computer, and the ports will not forward to the correct device.

This guide shows you how to add port forwarding rules on a Thompson SpeedTouch router using the pre set rules for various games as well as showing an example by creating custom rules  for Red Dead Redemption on the PS3.

NOTE: THIS GUIDE USES “RED DEAD REDEMPTION FOR PS3″ AS AN EXAMPLE, CONSULT YOUR GAMES DOCUMENTATION FOR THE PORTS IT REQUIRES TO BE FORWARDED.

Red Dead Redemption – requires you to forward the following ports:

  • 2005 TCP/UDP
  • 3074 TCP/UDP
  • 3075 TCP/UDP
  • 3478 TCP/UDP
  • 5223 TCP/UDP

Open your web browser and clear anything in the address bar, enter in the address for your Thompson or Speedtouch router, the default address is 192.168.1.254

Select “Game and Application Sharing” from under the “Toolbox” heading.

Thompson routers have a few pre-set rules for various games including Word of Warcraft, to view and use these pre-set rules select “Assign a game or application to a local network device” .

Browse the list of pre-set rules to see if your game or application already exists, if it does select it then assign it to the device on the network you wish to forward to, then press “Add”.

If you cannot find the game/application in the list you will need to manually add the ports to be forwarded. Select “Create a new game or application”.

Give your application a name that will remind you later why you forwarded the ports, select “Manual Entry of Port Maps”, then click “Next”.

Enter in the ports or port ranges that you wish to set forwarding rules for. For Red Dead Redemption you need to set the following ports:

  • 2005 TCP/UDP
  • 3074 TCP/UDP
  • 3075 TCP/UDP
  • 3478 TCP/UDP
  • 5223 TCP/UDP

THIS GUIDE USES “RED DEAD REDEMPTION FOR PS3″ AS AN EXAMPLE, CONSULT YOUR GAMES DOCUMENTATION FOR THE PORTS IT REQUIRES TO BE FORWARDED.

Your new game/application should now appear in the list, select it and set the device you wish to apply the rules to, then click “Add”.

You should be able to see a summary of the rules you have set up and the device that the rule is applied to.

The ports are now configured, close the router interface page.
