How to configure a Fritz!Box with Wi-Manx

You will need:

  • Ethernet Cables
  • Fritz!Box
  • Laptop / Computer
  • Radius user information (Obtainable from Wi-Manx support)
  • VOIP user information (Obtainable from WI-Manx support)

Please see the last pages of this guide for wiring the router for ADSL and VDSL

Once you have the router wired correctly and the router is booted up with both the Power/DSL light and WLAN light solid, you then need to insert the Ethernet cable into your Laptop or Computer and then into one of the LAN ports in the router.

Getting into the interface of the router

To access the user interface, follow the steps provided:

  • Open a browser
  • In the address bar, type Fritz.Box
  • Press [Enter]

Configuring the router in the Wizard

You should now see a page where you can select your language.

  • Choose English

You should now see a page where you can select your country.

  • Choose United Kingdom

Your Fritz!Box will now be restarted.

You will now see a screen that allows you to assign a password. This password will be for logging into the interface as we are doing now. If you assign a password you will have to enter it every time you try and log into the interface. Please write down this password or store it somewhere in case you forget it.

You will now see the screen informing you about the Wizard which assists you in setting up the router.

  • Press Next

Now you will see a page called Set Up Internet Connection.

  • Click on the drop down box
  • Choose Other Internet service provider
  • Now type in “Wi-Manx” in the Name field
  • Now press the Next button, visible on the page.

In the next screen you will have the choice between two radio buttons.

  • Choose the radio button: Connection to a DSL line
  • Press the Next button.

In the next screen you will need to enter the radius user information which you will have if you have requested them from our Technical Support Team. This information should be a username and a password.

The username should be formatted like the following examples:

00000-0@manx.broadband.com

0000-0@vdslplusplus.com

The password will have been sent to you with the username information.

  • Please enter the radius user information into the correct fields
  • Press the Next button

The next screen will show a summary of the internet connection settings and also check the internet connection.

  • Ensure that Check Internet connection tick box is disabled after saving (it will automatically be enabled)
  • Press the Next button

Another screen similar to the last summary screen will show up now,

  • It is your choice whether to have the Allow diagnostics and maintenance enabled or disabled.
  • Press the Next button

You will now see a Configure New Telephone Number page.

  • Press the Next button, as this step can be completed after we get out of the set up Wizard.

There will now be a page called Wireless LAN Settings.

  • Press the Next button

The router will now check for any updates to the firmware. Once it has done this you can press on the Finish button. You will now be on the main interface page.

Configuring the LED lights on the router

Once on the main interface page, follow these steps:

  • Locate and click on the System tab on the left side of the screen.
  • Once clicked, this should show multiple options – choose Buttons and LEDs
  • Under the Info display tab, please locate the Freely Selectable Options drop-down box
  • Click on the drop down
  • Select Internet connection is active: LED lights up (Located at the top of the list)
  • Press the Apply button.

Configuring VOIP

To configure VOIP on your router:

Telephony – Telephone Numbers – Telephone Numbers

Locate the Telephony tab on the left side of the main interface page

  • Then, locate the Telephone Numbers tab on the left
  • Here you should see a New telephone number button
  • Click on the New telephone number button.

We are now going to configure the VOIP Number.

In the Configuring Outgoing Caller ID page:

  • Please ensure that the Landline and DSL line radio button is clicked
  • Press the Next button.

On the next page there will be another set of two radio buttons:

  • Please unsure that the Internet telephone number radio button is clicked

You should now be on the Entering Internet Telephone Numbers page.

There are multiple fields which we need to populate in order to set up VOIP. Follow these steps:

  • The Telephony provider drop-down box should be set to: Other provider
  • In the Telephone Number for Registration field, you need to enter the VOIP number which you should have attained via Wi-Manx staff
  • In the Internal Telephone Number in the Fritz!Box, you need to enter the VOIP number which you should have attained via Wi-Manx staff

Under the Account Information section of the page:

  • In the User name field, you need to enter the VOIP number and VOIP password, both of which you should have attained via the WI-Manx staff.
  • In the Registrar field, you need to enter: sip.voiceservice.im

Under the Additional Settings section of the page:

  • The Insert area code for outgoing calls tick box should be un-ticked
  • Press the Next button

Now an informational page will show with the settings you have just put in:

  • Press the Next button
  • The page will now check the settings.
  • Once the page displays that the check was successful, press the Next button.

You should now be back to the Telephony page, however, now we need to go to the Line settings tab within this page, this will be located near the top of the page.

On this page, there are a couple of options which we can edit.

The two options which we are interested in are FON 1 and FON 2.

  • Press the pencil icon on the right side of the screen on the Telephone – FON 1
  • The only thing that needs to be changed is the drop-down box under Outgoing calls – this should be set to your VOIP number, which can already be located in the drop-down box.
  • Once you have selected your VOIP number in the drop-down box, press the OK button.
  • You should now return to the Line settings Press the pencil on the right side of the screen on the Telephone – FON 2 setting.
  • Again, the only thing that needs to be changed is the drop-down box under Outgoing calls – this should be set to your VOIP number, which you can find in the drop-down box.
  • Once you have selected your VOIP number in the drop-down box, press the OK button.

Now you can navigate to the Call Handling tab which should also be on the left side of the screen.

Once you have navigated to the Call Handling tab, select the Dialling Rules tab:

  • Click on New Dialling Rule
  • Number range should be set to: Telephone Number
  • Enter: 1471 in the Telephone number text box
  • Connect via should be set to: default provider
  • Press the OK button
  • You will now be prompted with a pop-up screen
  • Do not follow the steps shown in the pop up, we will do it an easier way.
  • Keep the pop up window open, and locate the DECT button on the top of your Fritz!Box router.
  • Press and hold this button for around 10 seconds, or until you see the Procedure confirmed screen on your laptop / computer
  • Press the OK button

Please navigate to the Internet tab on the left side of the screen, and then navigate to the Account information tab.

Internet – Account Information

On this page, we are checking settings under the drop down called Change Connection Settings, this drop-down is location closer to the bottom of the page. Once you have clicked Change Connection Settings, you will see DSL ATM Settings a few lines down.

Now, these settings will be different for ADSL and VDSL, so please refer to the correct settings for your broadband package.

ADSL

  • Select Set Manually
  • Set VPI to: 0
  • Set VCI to: 38
  • Select: PPPoA/VC-Mux for Encapsulation

  • Select Set Manually
  • Set VPI to: 1
  • Set VCI to: 32
  • Select: PPPoE for Encapsulation

Once you have changed the correct settings, press Apply.

The Settings will now be saved. Press the OK button.

Once the connection has been successfully checked press the OK button.

You should now be set up and your connection should be working! You can check this by navigating to the Overview tab and you should see something similar below (It may take a couple of minutes to show the connection).
