Cannot make outgoing calls over the Internet? – FRITZ!Box 7490

You might find that you are unable to make calls over the Internet whilst using telephones connected to your FRITZ!Box. This could also occur with certain numbers which you may have attempted to call. This problem may be occasional or continuous and you may encounter this issue if your telephone number has not yet been registered with the FRITZ!Box, in which case you will find an indication in the FRITZ!Box event log as one of the following error messages:

  • Internet (telephony) connection cleared.
  • Internet telephony with [number] via [registrar] failed. Reason for error: Timeout: The call was not accepted [Message]
  • Internet telephony with [Number] failed. Reason for error: Not Acceptable Here (488)
  • Internet telephony with [Number] failed. Reason for error: [404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 50x]
  • Internet telephony registration failed [number] Reason for error: [401, 402, 403]
  • Registration of Internet telephone number [number] failed. Remote site reports reason for error: [40x, 50x, 500. 503]
  • Registration of Internet telephone number [ number] failed. Reason for error: Remote site not responding. Timeout.
  • Registration of Internet telephone number [number] failed. Reason for error: DNS error.
  • To resolve this issue, follow the steps below. After each measure, attempt to make another call to see if the problem persists.

Enter your location information

  • First access the “Telephony” tab in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

  • Now open the “Telephone Numbers” page in the “Telephony”.

  • From this menu, open the “Line Settings” tab.

  • Now use the drop-down list underneath the “Location Information” field and select your country. If you find that your country is not included within the list, select the “Other Country” option.

  • Please enter two zeros in the first field and the country code in the second field of the “Country code” fields
  • In the Area code fields, enter two zeros in the first field, followed by the area code in the second field. If you are unsure of your area code visit this website: https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/international-calling-codes.htm
  1. To save these new settings and to also confirm that the FRITZ!Box may execute the procedure, click the “Apply” button.

 

How to restart the FRITZ!Box

  • Now select the “Backup” menu up in “System” menu which you have just selected. Proceed to the next menu.

  • Please open the “Restart” menu from here.

  • From the “Restart” menu Click the “Restart” button.

The FRITZ!Box will then be restarted.

How to delete call blocks

  • Now select the “Call Handling “tab from the “Telephony” menu to proceed.

  • You will now see a menu allowing you to delete any call blocks. These will have been configured for outgoing calls and telephone numbers and ranges that you would like to call. Deleting these blocks will then allow you to call these numbers.

  • You may delete these call blocks as you wish.

How to delete carrier prefixes

  • Now select the “Call Handling” tab from the “Telephony” menu.

  • Now you can select the “Carrier prefixes” tab from this menu.

  • You may delete every entry under the “Global Carrier Prefix” and “Additional Carrier Prefix”.

  • To save these new settings, click the “Apply” button

How to enter the correct internet telephone number and account information

  • Now select the “Telephone Numbers” tab from the “Telephony” menu.

  • You can observe the telephone numbers you have saved in this menu. Please attempt a call to check whether the status LED before the called number is green or grey.

  • When the LED is green, this indicates that the account information entered for your telephone number is correct. You can proceed to the next section.

The “Status” symbol will either be grey or green.

However, if the LED is grey you must perform a series of actions:

  • First, change the password for your telephone number.
  • Consider using a new password which you have not used before.
  • Now set up the same telephone number in the user interface again.
  • If the LED status is still grey, contact us at Wi-Manx support on 641188.
