Blocking YouTube in the Parental Controls

One of the FRITZ!Box many functionalities, is website filtering. This will allow you to block certain websites such as YouTube from specific devices. The following guide will demonstrate how to do this.

How to add YouTube to the website blacklist

YouTube is accessible through a number of web addresses. If you wish to block YouTube, you must first block all the addresses used by YouTube:

  • First, select the “Internet” tab in the FRITZ!Box user interface (Click here to read our guide on the FRITZ!Box user interface).

1

  • Now select “Filters” from the “Internet” menu. Proceed to the next menu.

2

  • In the “Filters” menu, select the “Lists” tab.

3

  • You can now click the “Edit” link next to the entry “Blocked websites (blacklist)”. This will send you to a menu allowing you to blacklist websites.

4

  • You should now enter the following web addresses into the field and press [Enter] or the [Space Bar] after every entry. Entering these addresses will blacklist them from your network until they are removed from the field.

youtube.com                           ytimg.com               googlevideo.com

 youtube-nocookie.com        ggpht.com

youtu.be                                   googleapis.com

This segment will show you how to block specific user devices from websites such as YouTube.

To do this, you must first enable the blacklist. This is necessary to prevent certain devices from accessing YouTube.

  • From the “Internet” menu, please select “Filters”. Proceed to the next menu

2

  • You should now select the “Access Profiles” tab.

3

  • Please select the “Edit” button (This looks like a pencil) next to the “Standard” option. This will allow you to access the profile you would like to edit.

5

4

  • Scroll down on the “Standard” page. You should now enable the option “Use of guest access blocked”.

6

  • Now you can enable the option “Filter websites”.

7

  • Now enable the option “Block websites (blacklist)” – This is visible in the image above.
  • Please select the “OK” button. This will save the changes made to the access profile.

8

YouTube should now be blocked having used the parental controls. You should now restart the FRITZ!Box or switch the LAN button on the FRITZ!Box housing off and on again. This should apply the new web address restriction to devices which had already accessed YouTube whilst you had been configuring the blacklist. You can apply these methods for any web address which you wish to block from your network or from specific devices in your home network.
